At present, the parachain test network Rococo has launched the public welfare parachain Statemint and started testing asset issuance. As of this writing, Acala, Zenlink, ChainX, and Bifrost have issued their own test tokens on the Statemint testnet.

What is Statemint?StatemintIt is a general asset parachain developed by Parity, which will be integrated into Kusama and Polkadot as one of the first public interest parachains. The function of Statemint is very simple, which is to provide the function of deploying assets in the Polkadot and Kusama networks. The general asset chain Statemint allows anyone to deploy assets, as long as they pledge a certain DOT or KSM, but if the network governance approves the issuance of an asset, in this case, DOT or KSM may not be mortgaged.

How to issue assets on Statemint?

first step:First you need some Rococo tokens: register a Rococo address, and then reply the address in Rococo's element chat room (https://riot.im/app/#/room/#rococo:matrix.parity.io), Parity The developers will give you some Rococo test tokens;

Step two:Step two:

Open polkadot.js.org, select TEST RELAYS & PARACHAIN Rococo, and then select Statemint to enter the Statemint page!third step:

You can check the assets issued based on Statemint at https://polkadot.js.org/apps/?rpc=wss%3A%2F%2Fstatemint-rococo-rpc.parity.io#/assets.

What is the point of issuing assets on Statemint?

  • Because the current Polkadot and Kusama networks have not yet integrated other functions other than governance, staking, and transfers, such as smart contracts, parallel chain functions, etc., so the current Polkadot and Kusama networks do not yet have the function of issuing tokens. If the Substrate-based chain wants to issue tokens, there are currently 4 possible ways:ERC20pass first

  • The token is issued and circulated, and then becomes a parallel chain and then mapped into its own main network currency, such as Phala Network;Treat the Substrate chain as aindependent chain

  • operation, but this kind of development threshold and economic cost are relatively high, such as ChainX;After that, launch the main network and issue tokens through its own parachain. Currently preparing to bid for parachain projects, such as Acala, Plasm, and Bifrost will take this approach;

  • passpassReleased by Statemint
