For several days in a row, I shared some knowledge about the metaverse with you. The metaverse is a description of ecology, and it includes a wide range of applications and technologies. From a technical point of view, the blockchain is only a part of the metaverse, and other technologies such as AR/VR and the Internet of Things are needed to realize it, but I think the role of the blockchain in the ecology of the metaverse is very important .
In the blockchain technology applied to the metaverse, NFT plays a central role, because NFT can express a wide range of things and meanings.
In the previous article, I shared with you the concept of NFT (Non-Fungible Token), so the opposite is FT (Fungible Token). In NFT, each token is unique and has different characteristics; in FT, tokens have exactly the same nature and value.
If we apply this concept to our daily life, we will find that in life, NFT tokens have far more usage scenarios and cases than FT. Most of the items in our lives are not exactly the same, and many are NFT. Even modern industrial products produced by mechanized mass production may not be exactly the same. When we buy things, especially expensive things, we repeatedly pick and look at them to carefully check whether the item we see is flawed. As long as there is a little flaw, it will be different from the standard product, and it is actually an NFT.
The Metaverse we're talking about can be imagined as another parallel living space. Although this space is parallel to the real space, there are many similarities and analogies between the ecology and methods in it and real life. In our real life, the cases of NFT are far greater than FT, so in the Metaverse, the use and scenarios of NFT will be far more than FT.
The concept of the metaverse is actually extended from the game, so even in the industry and many articles discussing the metaverse, the game scene is more talked about. Some friends who don't play games may think that they don't play games when they see this, so this has nothing to do with them. But in the future, I believe that games will never be the core of the Metaverse, and the Metaverse will definitely expand from the game scene to the entire entertainment, life, business and other fields, so everyone will definitely come into contact with the Metaverse in the future.
This is like in today's society, whether it is direct or indirect, almost everyone will be exposed to the Internet.
The trend of technological development cannot be stopped by anyone, and the influence of technological development cannot be avoided by anyone. And blockchain technology plays such an important role in this upcoming scene, so we in it cannot ignore it.
Because NFT involves a very wide range, its ecology is very large. The NFTs that each of us comes into contact with may be different, and they are only a subset or even a point in this big ecology. So this is like a blind man feeling an elephant. Everyone feels different parts, and their understanding will be very different: some people think it is promising, and some people think it is meaningless.
At this time, we need to take a few steps back, look up at it, look at different fields in this ecology, and try to understand the models and scenarios in different fields. At this time, another problem will arise, which is the problem I often and repeatedly mention: we are very likely to be bound and limited by traditional thinking. Jumping to conclusions about new things we see, especially new things we don't understand.
This is especially important to be vigilant about.
Just like what I wrote earlier when I introduced NFT artworks, I have seen many similar projects and websites, but I haven’t bought any of the above artists’ works until now, because I don’t understand them very well. , I also feel that it is difficult to accept such a work with so much money. I believe that many of my friends may feel this way, but I think this mentality should not hinder our curiosity and pace of exploration in this field.
So at this time, we try not to use our own values to measure whether this item is meaningful or nonsense, but to think more about how it came to be in this form? Why did it develop this form? Will it still be in this form in the future?
My biggest feeling when exploring the NFT field is that I am almost always challenging myself, always encountering things that are difficult for me to understand, and always encountering things that are incompatible with my own values. But the more it is at this time, the more we have to remind ourselves: This is how we looked at Bitcoin, Ethereum, and DeFi.
