On June 5th, Opside officially announced that its first public zkEVM chain was officially launched! This milestone marks that Solidity developers around the world can now deploy decentralized applications and related interactive contracts on the chain without restriction. In addition, the PoW ZKP mining function is also launched simultaneously. Miners can join the Opside test network at any time to contribute computing power, and then generate ZK proofs for ZK-Rollup, thereby obtaining corresponding reward points.
Opside has been running smoothly since the Pre-alpah testnet went live on May 24, 2023. As of press time, the total transaction volume of the Pre-alpha test network reached 2,025,201 transactions, and 45,214 independent users participated. Currently, 1,731 nodes are in stable operation to jointly maintain the stability and security of the Opside network.
Universal zkEVM chain
The newly launched ZK-Rollup will run as the general-purpose zkEVM chain officially released by Opside, providing an open and accessible operating environment for all developers. This ZK-Rollup chain is built on Polygon's open source code framework and improved upon it to provide good programmability and user experience. The emergence of the general-purpose ZK-Rollup chain has opened a door to the ZK world for Solidity developers around the world. They can now deploy on the general-purpose zkEVM chain and experience ZK-Rollup's breakthrough technological change for themselves.
Custom zkEVM chain
At present, the Opside ecosystem is expanding rapidly, and more than 25 high-quality projects have participated in it so far. Especially those projects that require high throughput will soon have their own ZK-Rollup chain. This feature will allow these project parties to deploy their own applications to further optimize their operations while making full use of chain resources. At that time, developers or project parties who meet the necessary conditions can generate ZK-Rollup chains, browsers, bridges and other necessary settings with one click through the ZK-Rollup Launchpad. Of course, as part of a comprehensive service offering, the Opside network will also provide basic functions such as data availability layers and computing power.
A key point of the Opside model is that the sovereignty of the ZK-Rollup chain belongs entirely to the project team. They are free to set gas fee tokens, gas prices, and choose the zkEVM SDK that best meets their project requirements (including Polygon zkEVM, Scroll, zkSync, etc.). Currently, most dApps are actively being deployed, and more projects are applying to join Opside. It is foreseeable that an active and diverse ZK-Rollup ecosystem will emerge in the future.
PoW mining
At the same time as the general ZK-Rollup is launched, Opside PoW ZKP mining has also been opened to miners simultaneously. As one of the important components of the ecosystem, PoW miners can contribute their own computing power to generate ZK proofs for each ZK-Rollup, thereby being rewarded with loyalty points. Opside welcomes all miners to join. It is reported that large miners such as Ingonyama and Bitmain have committed to participate in the Opside Pre-alpha test network.
Opside officially stated that the current PoW whitelist application window is now closed. In less than a month, Opside received applications from 2,201 miners from 52 countries. Previously, in order to promote the long-term development of the ecology and encourage more participants to join, Opside also specially adjusted and lowered the entry threshold for miners. It is worth mentioning that Opside also plans to launch a GPU version of ZKP mining around the end of July.
ZK-Rollup as a Service
The launch of general ZK-Rollup and PoW ZKP mining is undoubtedly the "highlight" of this round of incentive testnet.
The launch of the general-purpose zkEVM heralds the approach of the full opening of Opside ZK-RaaS (ZK-Rollup as a Service) functions. Opside welcomes global developers and project parties to deploy on the general ZK-Rollup chain and help Opside test its stability and performance together.
On the other hand, the launch of PoW ZKP mining represents a substantial improvement in the security and performance of the Opside network. By utilizing the computing power provided by miners, Opside can generate ZKP for all ZK-Rollups, achieving a more decentralized and robust ecosystem while ensuring network stability and integrity.
Since the launch of the Pre-alpha incentivized testnet, Opside has been undergoing market testing and innovation. The launch of Public zkEVM and PoW ZKP mining undoubtedly proves Opside’s unremitting efforts on the road to the main network, and also verifies the great market potential of ZK-Rollup as a Service and the inevitable trend of generalization of ZK technology in the future.
