The exciting Ethereum merger is finally here, and the merger is expected to take place on September 14-15.
As we prepare to enter the new world of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) on Ethereum, let’s review key metrics related to stake.
The indicators examined include:
Deposits
validator distribution
node distribution

After a gradual decline in 2021, the total amount of contracted deposits surged to an all-time high in March 2022, and this momentum continued until mid-May when it slowed down again.

Discussion of potential censorship has been lively within the Ethereum community since OFAC added Tornado Cash to its list of sanctioned addresses. Some fear that the ethereum protocol itself could come under scrutiny if validators are subject to coercive measures by authorities in their jurisdiction.
Let's look at depositors by jurisdiction. Extrapolating the jurisdictions of the top 50 known entities from the company registry, we find that nearly 1/3 of validators are located in one jurisdiction (US).

Eth2 Nodewatch
Ethernodes
For managed nodes, the data results are very inconsistent. Eth2 Nodewatch reports 75% of nodes are unmanaged, while Ethernodes reports almost the exact opposite - 70% of nodes are managed.

client distribution
Another important aspect of distribution is the client diversity of the consensus and execution layers. Having too many nodes running a particular client can jeopardize the failure of the entire chain's activity and, if that client encounters an error, take a toll on all validators running that client.
