NFT artist Pplpleasr launched its first Solana-based project this week.
"The Collectoooooor" allows NFT owners to exchange for rarer NFTs. The project generated approximately $127,000 in charity benefits.
Digital artist Pplpleasr, also known as Emily Yang, is one of the biggest names in this year's NFT market boom, designing the cover of Fortune magazine and selling it as an NFT. Her previous work was on the popular Ethereum-based NFT platform, but she has now expanded to its competitor, the Solana network, and released an innovative project.
During the Solana Breakpoint conference in Lisbon this week, Pplpleasr partnered with Cloud Eater Studios, the Solana-based Metaplex protocol to create "
”, the project has a total of 500 works, including 3D ducks, buildings, UFOs, etc.
Taken individually, any one piece may seem simple or mundane. However, if a wallet holder collects all 13 unique items from the collection, they will eventually have the option to destroy them in exchange for one of a total of 15 limited-edition animated 3D cityscapes (three designs each with five versions).
Pplpleasr told Decrypt that "The Collectooooooor" is designed "like Metaverse Animal Crossing, where players collect different assets based on recipes to 'craft items' as upgrades."
Nintendo's "Animal Crossing" game series includes low-key life simulations of cartoon creatures and online social games. The latest version on the Switch was released in March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and became an enjoyable escape for tens of millions of players from the reality of isolation.
Visually, The Collectooooor's cityscapes capture a bit of the Animal Crossing vibe, with an isometric overhead view of an animated 3D setting. Pplpleasr said the design of the project was also inspired by her previous work, A Whale's Dream, and took visual cues from the Lisbon and Solana ecosystems.
Debuting a project on Solana is a new experience for Pplpleasr, but she sees it as a long process. "I'm curious about other blockchains and how NFTs work on other chains, their market/audience, how it differs from Ethereum." In addition, Solana Labs COO Raj Gokal is a long-time supporter. In early 2021, Pplpleasr will be invited to cooperate for the first time.
In addition to moving to Solana to launch the project, Pplpleasr is also taking a different approach to selling "The Collectoooooor" NFT. Pplpleasr adopts the Fair Launch Protocol (Fair Launch Protocol), which is designed to prevent a large number of buyers from rushing in to purchase a limited number of NFTs at the same time, while also allowing the community to determine the price in a decentralized manner.
The process starts by having potential buyers bid on individual NFTs at what they think is a fair price, and then ultimately sets the median bid at a "fair launch" price. In this case, its "fair launch" price was 1 SOL, or about $240, as of Wednesday's release. (The works are currently selling for about five times their release price on the secondary market.)
Any bidder who puts in 1 SOL or more will automatically receive a raffle ticket from which 500 winners will be selected to complete the transaction. Bidders who did not win the draw will receive an automatic refund, while bidders who bid more than 1 SOL will receive a refund for the remainder. Those who bid lower can also choose to enter the sweepstakes at a higher price. However, regardless of the outcome, each bidder also paid a fee of 0.1 SOL, which will go to charity. At press time, there were 5,568 bidders for a total fee of 556.8 SOL, or roughly $127,000. Pplpleasr has asked fans in the Collectoooooor community Discord group to help figure out the best way to donate funds.。
