Hello everyone, it is a great honor to participate in this forum. I am Alex Salnikov, co-founder and product director of Rarible. Launched two years ago, Rarible is one of the most open platforms where users can create and sell NFTs. After the emergence of this platform, the market began to be different from the past. The previous NFTs did not have mature projects, and most of them were either some games, or just like the copycat version of CryptyKitties. The way to create NFTs is to use smart contracts, and basically trade them in the secondary market. This is created as a developer or a project. The only way for investors to own their own NFT.
With the emergence of Rarible and other platforms, the market has changed. In 2020, we saw the most glorious year of the encrypted art movement. Creators began to have the ability to put their artwork on various platforms, and then create NFT and sell it , which is basically the case for most NFTs in 2020. You can create a collection with pictures or video or audio, and then trade. The majority of NFT sales are concentrated in the initial marketplace, done directly by creators. Now it is 2021. We have seen a new look of the NFT market. Collectibles have begun to attract attention. They have aroused great interest from users and brought many newcomers into the circle. Start the binge yourself with themed collectibles. Rarible boldly meets all the new challenges of the market, I don’t know how many people know this – from the beginning Rarible allows users to trade in the secondary market, and most authors of NFT sold on the Ethereum system use Rarible as a creation tool . NFT will always exist, and you can trade collectibles.
Why collectibles are so popular, like Meebits, HashMask, and Bored Apes (now they have differentiated Mutant Apes from the original Bored Apes), to the appearance of more NFT avatars such as fat penguins, their ideas are a bit like CryptoPunk. CryptoPunk starts with 10,000 pieces, and they are randomly generated, which means that when you buy an item, you don't know which one you're going to get. The reason it's so popular is because of contributing to the community, when the first sale happened the first entrants earned their spot and basically just by participating in the battle for gas fees they formed a community , and then created a Discord discussion group to start promoting these collectibles and doing everything to make it more popular. Then the second wave of buyers came, and then the third wave of buyers came. Basically, every time a new wave of users comes, the previous users can always benefit. Their limited supply is also the main reason these collectibles are so popular, they are sort of like tokens, just with the idea of not wanting to be minted more than once. Rarible is moving in the direction of these collectibles, on our homepage we have popular collectibles, and various information about collectibles, not only from Rarible but also from other marketplaces. In the popular favorites page, you can not only see popular collections on Rarible, but also popular collections on other platforms. This phenomenon is mainly generated by the crypto-native community, and the market is still growing.
Rarible's goal from the beginning has been to make the marketplace simple so that everyone new to the ecosystem can understand and operate it as proficiently as they would with Instagram or Facebook. The market should be beautiful, accessible, easy to understand, and easy to operate. Ease of use of the product is really important, and when people get into the field, they should understand what's going on without having to read tons of manual specs and stuff like that. You should know just by visiting the site that a lot of stuff is on sale and some things are going to be more expensive. We want to integrate this feature into every work of Rarible, and we have to ask ourselves whether these can make new users get started better every time. This may be one of the reasons for Rarible's success.
Also if you want to create your own projects, we recently launched a large open source initiative to the community, again you probably haven't heard of it. This set of open-source tools facilitates the development of the Rarible marketplace, a set of infrastructure and challenges for creating NFT projects. In order to continue to be one of the most open platforms on the blockchain, Rarible has a protocol managed by a DAO, which creates a separation from the main company, which is a middle ground. You can understand it as Flow to NBA top shot. NBA top shot is one of the projects running on the Flow game public chain. The same mechanism is also applicable to Rarible and the protocol on Rarible. A lot of people are saying that we may be shrouded in a bubble or something like that, but I want to remind everyone that there was a similar situation in 2017, but basically the entire DeFi world was born from that time. So I think the whole NFT world will be born from this. Rarible has a long-term plan and will be active in this field for several years, or even ten or decades. This project will create a brand new media world of intellectual property rights, rights ownership and management . We create tools that make this world real, and I know it's an exciting journey.
