Just after payment giants such as Visa, Mastercard and PayPal were exposed, today, the complete list of Facebook’s cryptocurrency project partners was disclosed by The Block.
The list shows that Facebook partners are distributed in seven major fields: blockchain, investment institutions, shared travel, payment, e-commerce, social media, and telecommunications.
26 companies or organizations including Coinbase Exchange, well-known investment institution Andreessen Horowitz, non-profit organization Women's World Bank, shared travel platform Uber, British multinational telecommunications company Vodafone, online travel provider Booking Holdings, and Visa.
As the Wall Street Journal recently reported, Facebook's cryptocurrency will be managed by a consortium called the Libra Association. The funds from the consortium members will back Facebook's stablecoin, which will be pegged to a basket of currencies.
If successful, Facebook could receive $1 billion from the 100 companies it wants to include in the project. Each of these nodes will also reportedly receive a seat in the Libra Association as a node operator and send a representative to the consortium.
Initially Facebook had ambitions to involve Wall Street, but found a lack of interest from institutional giants such as Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan. Facebook still hopes to have 100 members in the governing association, the person said.
