On the evening of May 27th, as an extension of the high-end dialogue on blockchain at the 2019 Data Expo, this reading session was organized by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, co-organized by Beijing Taier Yingfu Network Technology Co., Ltd., and Yunshang Ark. Participate in and support the Kevin Kelly Reading Club exclusively promoted by Odaily held in Zhongshuge, Guiyang.
In this sharing session, Odaily founder Mandy Wang Mengdie had an exclusive conversation with Kevin Kelly to discuss the future of blockchain.
Kevin Kelly, often referred to as "KK", is the author of the best-selling books "Out of Control" and "Inevitable", the first editor-in-chief of "Wired Magazine" (Wired Magazine); publisher.
Among them, "Out of Control" was written in 1994. The book puts forward the trend of "artificial life" and "life engineering", and mentions hot concepts after many years, such as cloud computing, Internet of Things, virtual reality, collaboration, Symbiosis, network community, network economy, etc.
Kevin Kelly has always paid attention to remote collaboration between people. He believes that blockchain may help track the contribution of individuals in collaboration.
Kevin Kelly once pointed out that blockchain technology also provides a good means of realizing true sharing. "A blockchain can also involve millions of people, trying to work together to track each other and trade with each other. In order to promote the achievement of greater goals, millions of people work together, which will create a problem: how to track them work? This requires blockchain, which is a potential tool, and we need such a tool for large-scale collaboration.”
At the sharing session, he said that he believes that the combination of blockchain and other technologies may indeed be part of the solution to change the way people work.
Despite seeing the potential of blockchain, Kevin Kelly isn't too keen on cryptocurrencies. At the sharing session, Wang Mengdie, the founder of Odaily, mentioned the "life course" of Bitcoin's ups and downs and multiple survivals, which is very similar to the "technology has life" mentioned in Kevin Kelly's book.
Kevin Kelly believes that Bitcoin has something to do with nature. "In the field of blockchain, it is actually more like an organization like our DNA, just like our genes. In fact, every node is connected together based on a consensus mechanism. So I do think that blockchain has some A place that can echo."
He changed the subject at this time: "But I only have 25 bitcoins, because I am actually not a big fan of cryptocurrency, and I don't like to dig gold, and I don't think it is a very useful thing. Because all Cryptocurrencies are variable, diverse. I don’t think it’s very reliable, it’s not very stable.”
After the blockchain, the two began to discuss the development model of future technology giants.
Kevin Kelly said, "I think the success of the giants is their cage, and their own success may become the root cause of their failure." Because large companies can be satisfied with their existing success and not undertake failure. "New technologies such as the mirror world and blockchain have very low profits at the beginning and the market is small. Technology giants do not want to make such an attempt." Small businesses have no choice but to keep trying newer technologies. It is possible to survive. Therefore, there is a good chance that small companies will become the dominant players on the next platform.
Wang Mengdie, the founder of Odaily, mentioned that nowadays, on the Internet and social media, one can never find the information one wants. Kevin Kelly asked in a little astonishment: "Why are you looking for it on social media? I don't have social media on my phone." He believes that most of the news is indeed trivial and unreliable gossip, even if a hundred years The previous news is also like this, we don't think they are new.
Wang Mengdie asked Kevin Kelly: "You once said, 'When the answers are cheap, good questions become more difficult and therefore more valuable.' So what's the most valuable question you've been thinking about lately? "Kevin Kelly gave two examples:
First, what exactly is 5G? We don't know anything other than that it's faster than 4G, so where exactly can it be used?
The second is whether we may become a global government? Do people really want a world government?
The unique foresight of technology has made Kevin Kelly gain many fans. Taking advantage of the opportunity of this Expo, Chinese readers have had the opportunity to get in close contact with and communicate with KK, and there are many industry leaders at the scene.
Seven years ago, Kevin Kelly came to China and had a conversation with Tencent founder Ma Huateng. At that time, Ma Huateng asked Kevin Kelly, who might become a company that surpasses Tencent? Some guests wanted to know, seven years later, how would Kevin Kelly answer this question back then?
Kevin Kelly first reviewed the past: the first generation of digital platforms is a network. "It gathers all the information, uses a lot of hyperlinks, and can achieve the purpose of machine readability." Such a search engine product is led by giants such as Facebook and Baidu.
The second digital platform is social media. It connects all kinds of interpersonal relationships, and it connects all people, related giants like Weibo and WeChat.
The third such platform is about to appear, and Kevin Kelly believes that it may be the mirror world, cloud computing, etc. "Maybe we'll be able to digitize everything in the world."
He believes that there will be such a company in the future, but he does not think the big player will be a large-scale technology giant, such as Baidu, Google, Alibaba, etc.
"I don't think the new giants have emerged yet, or people haven't noticed it yet. So it's hard to predict who they are."
After the sharing session, Kevin Kelly took a group photo with the host and readers.
