There are huge opportunities in the field of "blockchain + medical" with BAT "leading the way", but the resistance from centralized medical institutions is not small.

The healthcare industry is one of the earliest industries to apply blockchain technology. This is directly related to the low degree of informatization in the medical industry and the large room for transformation of the industry by new technologies.

The circulation of medical data is difficult. First, because each hospital has purchased systems from different service providers at different times, there is a lack of standardized data formats or interactive interfaces between the systems, and the cost of "unification" is relatively high; Patient privacy, most medical institutions will not hand over data for profit, and even their databases are only connected to the local area network. These security measures also add trouble to patients when they see a doctor across hospitals.

I recently contactedDOCARE, a blockchain medical and health data platform, combines smart contracts, distributed storage and HIE technology, hoping to integrate health data from different medical institutions on the chain, thereby protecting data privacy, improving the level of industry informatization, and activating the value of medical data .

HIE(Health Information Exchange)It is a set of international standards that can unify and standardize information formats in different medical information systems. Guo Lingyu, the technical consultant of the DOCARE project, worked as the director of the R&D center of Shanghai Daijia Medical Information System Co., Ltd., and developed a medical information system based on HIE technology and implemented it. He has experience in the implementation path of HIE technology. Although HIE has broken the industry situation of "data islands", it cannot return the data value from the centralized storage space to the data producers (patients). Therefore, DOCARE combines the smart contract of the blockchain on the basis of the HIE standard to clarify the ownership and use conditions of the data. Only after the patient authorizes, other medical institutions and remote doctors can see the medical record information.

DOCARE has placed self-service machines in cooperative hospitals. Doctors guide patients to complete real-name authentication on the machines and receive electronic examination results. Patients can view the digital examination results on the APP or web page at any time, and can also authorize expert doctors in other hospitals or remote consultations.

DOCARE is developing a medical imaging data system based on EOS. The target customers are tertiary hospitals, specialist alliances, third-party imaging inspection centers, etc. DOCARE is also testing prototypes with partners. According to reports, compared with the original system, DOCARE can save 30-50% cost for the hospital.

DOCARE plans to launch doctor-side and patient-side APPs in June. Due to the "to hospital" in commercial promotion, it is difficult to guarantee the utilization rate of the patient-side APP, and can only rely on the integrity of the C-side service, the reusability rate of inspection results and product experience. Guo Lingyu is also looking for more partners from the previously accumulated customer and doctor resources to improve the "remote diagnosis and treatment" section.

In terms of profit model, DOCARE currently mainly relies on selling self-service equipment and back-end systems to hospitals, and plans to extend to insurance and other directions in the future.

According to reports, DOCARE is in the process of angel round financing, with a planned financing amount of 8 million US dollars. It has been confirmed that the capital includes Byzantine Capital, Central Bank Capital, Concord Capital and Tianji Capital.

The team has more than 50 people, including more than 20 technicians. Guo Lingyu, medical informatization consultant of Shanghai Weiai Information Technology Co., Ltd. (DOCARE technical side), has 16 years of experience in medical informatization product design and development, operation and maintenance promotion, and team management, and is an HIE technical expert. Ye Xin, CMO of Shanghai Weiai Information Technology Co., Ltd., deputy chief physician, once served as the director of the Information Center of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University, and presided over the design of Xiamen Health Informatization Project; he is currently an expert in electronic medical records of the Health and Family Planning Commission, and participated in the formulation of relevant standards for national electronic medical records. 18 years of experience in medical and health informatization.

From an industry perspective,BAT has begun to lay out the "blockchain + medical" field, exploring the profit prospects of blockchain ecology and medical blockchain. Another potential competitor of DOCARE is online medical and health consultation service platforms such as Chunyu Doctor. If such a platform transforms into a blockchain, its data has already been stored on the Internet, and the cost of going to the chain is lower than that of the offline DOCARE. Guo Lingyu believes that the opportunity of DOCARE lies in the experience and resources of medical informatization and HIE technology.
