Odaily News Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter, that the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) may discuss the escalating threat posed by North Korean-backed cyberattacks and cryptocurrency thefts at a summit in Canada next month. People familiar with the matter said that North Korea's use of cybercrime to fund the regime has caused "serious alarm" - White House officials previously disclosed that North Korea is financing its military weapons program through cryptocurrency robberies. According to data from blockchain analysis company Chainalysis, North Korean hackers stole $1.34 billion through 47 attacks in 2024, accounting for 61% of the total amount of cryptocurrency stolen worldwide that year. The company pointed out that hacking technology is becoming more and more sophisticated, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to track stolen funds.
