Odaily News Gerry Connolly, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to the panel's Republican chairman a day after Trump's new term began, asking for an investigation into the president's business ties.
"The Committee must take immediate action to investigate the serious conflicts of interest that President Trump has brought into the Oval Office and the disturbingly expanding scope of the financial entanglements and quid pro quo commitments by President Trump and the Trump Organization," he said in the letter.
"Through his Meme Coin, Trump has created a way to circumvent national security and anti-corruption laws by allowing parties to anonymously transfer money to him and his inner circle," said Rep. Maxine Waters, a senior Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, in a statement. "Buyers could include large corporations, allies forced to show 'respect' to the president, and our adversaries who have much to gain from influencing Trump's presidency." Waters believes that this token not only harms Trump's interests, but also taints the entire industry. (CoinDesk)
