据不完全统计，截至目前，已有内蒙古、云南、新疆、青海、四川、安徽等6省份清理关停虚拟货币挖矿项目。中南财经政法大学数字经济研究院执行院长、教授盘和林表示，各地关停虚拟货币挖矿项目的主要原因有二：其一是国家已经对虚拟加密货币定性，在国内全面整治虚拟货币，各地响应国家号召，对虚拟货币挖矿项目进行治理。其二是各地有碳排放任务，未来节能减排的压力下，挖矿消耗了大量能源，不利于地方推进节能减排，所以清退挖矿也成为了必然。盘和林预测，未来全国范围内将关停虚拟货币挖矿项目，既然已经设定为非法，且进行打击，那么最终会扩散到全国。
